It’s a big Challenge for a brand to make the leap from online selling and mail order into high street retail.
We were asked to design an innovative and low impact trading space for howies. Inspired by their successful catalogue, the store provides a highly flexible environment for product display and storytelling. In doing all this, we had to make sure that it didn’t feel like a traditional retail space, using hidden display mechanisms and unusual materials. Much of the materials palette used rich highly textured reclaimed timber for furniture, wall linings and key display areas.
We also created a dedicated room for denim, the product which howies has became known for.
The scheme allowed the brand to continue to communicate with their customers in experimental ways just as they have in print and online. In many respects, the store has more in common visually with an exhibit or interpretive experience as it does with a retail space.
